Pure Action Movies – 4 New ‘A-Team “Videos

June 3rd, 2010 admin No comments

Pure Action Movies – . The more I see of Sharlto Copley (District 9), “Mad” Murdock Howling, the more I want to see this movie. I know its strange if you have any measure – and, of course, the other three team members. But doing something about the presence of Copley me here, they expect even more. I think both action-oriented videos solidify the fact that the film goes beyond most and the land of the absurd. But honestly, that was probably the goal, and I think it is ultimately a strength rather than weakness – after all, that the character of Jessica Biel in the last trailer A-Team, says, “They specialize in the ridiculous. ” What do you think of the latest videos A-Team? Do you agree with Copley was released and the action is completely ridiculous (but still fun

Pure Action Movies The Road a review

January 18th, 2010 admin No comments

Based on Cormac McCarthy novel the movie is a simple story of survival told through a father and his son as they struggle through and apocalyptic wasteland where everything is slowing dying. We are not told what has happened but its clear that the world is in trouble. The father played by Viggo Mortenson struggles to survive with his son in tow all the while questioning himself should he live or just give up even to the point of showing his son how to end it.

The movie relies on the interaction between father and son and the threat of starvation and gangs of other survivors who have reverted to cannibalism. THe movie is not an action adventure move and shouldnt be viewed as such, its basically the struggle for survival and a father love for his son and his struggle for his own humanity.

Good movie and nice performances from the leads.

Pure Action Movies Sherlock Holmes with a difference

January 18th, 2010 admin No comments

Sherlock Holmes starring Robert Downey and Jude is n ot your typical Holmes adventure. The director Guy Ritchie has created something that a lot of purists will hate and people not familiar with the books will enjoy. I am a huge fan of the books and the old Basil Rathbone movies and Jeremy Brett tv series so I consider myself a purist at heart. That being said I did enjoy the movie and the leads do a good job and there is good interaction between them and the story is well paced.

The story is pure boys own adventure set in a fictional London which is well realised with good production values, the Tower of London is one that stands out. My only gripe is that the movie is just a bit too long could shave at leasat 15 minutes but its just a minor quibble. If your looking for Adventure, Romance, Comedy, Drama and Martial Arts this is a great popcorn movie and you will not be bored.

Pure Action Movies Daybreakers another Vampire movie oh joy Zzzzzz

January 18th, 2010 admin No comments

Cant believe I spent movie to see this, ok its not totally crap the effects are good but nothing you havent seen before.

Plot, the world has been tisaken over by vampires humand are farmed for their blood and society continues to function. The only problem  the blood is running out and the vampires are regressing into a more subhuman animalistic state. Ethan Hawke plays a vampire with a heart who cares for the human race and attempts to create a fake blood solution so the humans can be saved.

The story starts of well and there is hope that this might actually go somewhere but halfway through things change and things start getting stupid. If your a vampire fan and love silly sci-fi this might be the movie for you.

Myself I cant get by the plot holes there are too many and the movie doesnt make sense.

Yes we know that vampires hate sunlight but not when they wear a hat or stand under a tree apparently, this is the first plot hole. The second is if their are only a few human survivors left why dont they simply go out in the day and kill the vampires when they sleep?. I mean come on if your going to make a big budget movie at least make it slightly plausible.

Pure Action Movies review Give em Hell Malone

January 4th, 2010 admin No comments

Pure Action Movies always has time for something different unfortunately Give em Hell Malone fails to live up to the mark, if your going to recreate a pulp film noir action hero in the vain of Mike Hammer or Sam Spade at least cast the right actor, Thomas Jane just doesnt cut it for me hes too wooden.

Another thing that bugged me was the villians, ripping of Sin City and Dark Knight especially the later with a very bad imitation of Heath Ledger’s Joker was insulting to watch and Ving Rhames looked as bored as he did in the Tournament.

The first ten minutes of the movie are good, plenty of action and well paced but after that it died bigtime and went straight to chimp screenplay. Using wirework to control falls may work for high falls but look shoddy in my opinion when done from say ten feet.

Its hard to pin down what this movie is supposed to be. Is it a film noir or a spoof it really is hard to tell and this does detract from it, and the ending makes no sense whatsoever only that there might be a sequel. Hopefully someone will make a fanedit and it will make it more enjoyable.

Sopme people will compare it to Sin City or Shoot em up, Let me tell you it is not. Very disappointing.

Pure Action Movies review Universal Soldier: Regeneration yes they made another one

January 4th, 2010 admin No comments

Pure action movies has always been an advocate of lost causes and backing the underdog. With this being the case here is my review of Universal Soldier: Regeneration (number 4 as checked on imdb).

Hard to believe someone had the balls to make a fourth, wow is the first superlative to think that the first one in the series wasnt all that good it come as a shock that this one ticks all the right buttons, good acting, great story and good production and locations.

Yes it has Dolph Lundgren and JCVD and its still a good move no…ITS A GREAT MOVIE. Finally a good movie thats not spoilt by stupid CGI or complicated plots and hamming acting.

Pure Action Movies Dances with smurfs review yes its Avatar

December 15th, 2009 admin No comments

Yep ! Just come back from seeing Avatar sneak preview, its out there as the most technicial movie ever made nothing comes close to touching this forget Star Wars or Bladerunner this is the new benchmark the Matrix has had its day this is the new daddy.

The 3-D is stunning I’ve never seen such detail in almost every scene, they must have broken a lot of PC’s for this one. The backdrop to the alien world is incredibly realised as for the aliens the Naavi are incrediblely designed by WETA.

Yes there is a but coming and here it is……the story! Its a bit of a let down imagine Dances with Wolves set on a different planet and thats the story throw in a bit mother earth and eco hippy stuff and thats about it.

Action yes there is action lots of action and well paced which is just as well considering its 160 minutes long.

Lastly the 3-D glasses are not glasses there goggles and there heavy and no you cannot keep them (why would you).

2012 the happy movie for happy people

November 18th, 2009 admin No comments

So Independence Day was not enough for Roland Emmerich he had to freeze the world in Day after tomorrow and drown almost the entire humans race in 2012. I think this guy needs help, no but seriously how far can you stretch the idea of the earth doomsday prophecy ?

Well in his latest offering pretty far, the story goes that the Sun produces a solar flare full of nasy neutrinos that penetrate the earths crust and start heating things up which causes massive upheaval off the continental plates and destroys every major continent and country except bits of China and Africa. Yes this is a spoiler and you be glad of it considering the movie is 158 mins long. Oh forgot to mention that John Cusack and Oliver Platt are in it along with Chiwetel Ejiofor, Thandie Newton,Woody Harrelson,Danny Glover, and George Segal amazing cast for such a bad movie.

Bad movie yes but wait how a bout a B movie well if you look at as a B movie it does kinda work the ridiculous story and effects do give it some merit but you have to ask yourself is it warranted I leave it to you to decide.

If you really want to see it wait for the DVD and fast forward through the boring bits.

G.I. Joe Rise of the Cobra

October 5th, 2009 admin No comments

Kung Fu Grip and batteries included.

Managed to view G.I. Joseph over the weekend, and what do I have say about it…..

As you all know I have a distinct hatred of bloated  and heavily laden fx movies with the dreaded cgi and stunts (created by wintel). But as that maybe…it works for G.I. Joe all the gadgets and characters are there and while there is no plot or story somehow it manages to pull it off (in a totally tongue in cheek way) throw in some incredibly hammy acting from Dennis Quaid and it works.

One word of praise is Sienna Miller who dominates every scene without her the whole thing would fall apart, another big suprise is Joseph Gordon Levitt (nice to see him sneaking away from the independents for a while) kudos to you.

Gamer…Gammy more like it

September 28th, 2009 admin No comments

gamer-medium-poster[1]

I like 300, I like Gerald Butler in an action role, I like Crank and Crank 2

However  I DO NOT LIKE GAMER !

You would think it would have everything going for it, christ it even has the guy who plays Dexter as the villian.

But no unfortunately thats not the case here, what we have is a stereotypical unoriginal piece which takes it story from the Running Man and thats the story taken care off oh and before I forgot Avalon (suprised the producers of that movie didnt sue as the story is a direct copy)

Now for the action what little coherent set piece’s  were ruined by hyper editing and shakycam with some stupid graphics thrown in. It was impossible to see who was shooting who, even some of the stunts looked CGI enhanced.

One last word you know your in trouble when the best thing in an action movie is the dance scene, I kid you not !

District 9 anybody for a Prawn cocktail ?

September 11th, 2009 admin No comments

alien[1]

Saw District 9 a few days ago and it does live up to the hype (believe it).

Never have I seen such an original visually arresting film, blending social issues as racism, exclusion and melodrama wrapped up in sci-fi story. This movie is quite simply the best sci-fi move made in the last five years.

A spaceship suddenly appears over Johannesburg and its inhabitant are insect-like bi-ped refugees who are set to become the new outcasts by the SA government who segregate them in their own township called district 9. A few years go by and things have gotten worse the township has now become a slum and the indigenous population are calling for the aliens to be relocated to intermittent camps 30 miles outside the city.

Cant say too much else without giving all the plot away, but I’ll just say this the ending does not disappoint.

If you have seen already seen this I suggest you checkout the directors other short films by logging into imdb.

Knowing I should have known better

September 2nd, 2009 admin No comments

I cant take any more disappointments, I have just seen Knowing probably the stupidest god awful flicks I’ve ever seen. But that’s not the worse of it it was directed by one of my favourite directors Alex Proyas of Crow and Dark City fame and I Robot (even with Will Smith still a helluva good movie).

First part of the movie did have an interesting 20 mins or so but after that oh boy did it go down hill fast, the story if you can call it that turned into a farce. I know (get it ?) its hard for screenwriters to come up with ideas, but come on ! aliens saving the day and a revised Noah’s ark subplot!?!?!? its enough to make you weep when you think of the wonderful underused acting and directorial talent just going to waste on crap like this.

I’m sorry this isn’t a review as such its just me venting, worse thing about it though I was actually warned about this from a friend of mine…I should have KNOWN better

I hate this movi so much I’m not even going to piut a pic up!

Inglorious Basterds Review

August 21st, 2009 admin No comments

inglourious_basterds-poster[1]

Ok peeps here we go here is my two cents of Mr Tarantino’s latest offering to the celluloid gods.

First of I’d like to say this an improvement on his last opus DeathProof its more entertaining and the humour is more apparent this is not a movie to be taken seriously.

Plot wise its pretty straightforward Mister Angeline Jolie heads up a Nazi hunting Jewish death squad packed with psychos with plenty of blood lust. On their travels they are ordered to wipe out all of the third Reich elite who have been ordered to attend a premiere of a Nazi propaganda movie about a German sniper(lame subplot I wont bothering explaining).

Like I said before this an improvement on his last movie but jesus some scenes just dragged on ! Seriously there were times when I felt like screaming at the screen get a f**ing move on. Seems like Quentin doesn’t want to waste anything, its like he got all the scraps the editor cut and reinserted them back into the movie

Its a war movie where’s the action, apart from some very short and bloody shootouts that’s it apart from the end climax which is tame for this type of movies. Alot of critics had said that he has been over indulgent and I would tend to agree with this, it can even by seen in the opening credits which change as they progress a bit like his grind-house failure.

Yuen Woo Pings Tribute to David Carradine

August 11th, 2009 admin No comments

This short excerpt is from Yuen Woo Ping it is taken from the magnificent www.kungfucinema.com site

Back in June, Yuen reacted to Carradine’s death by posting a eulogy on the official site.

I was just finishing a new piece of diary when the sad news of David Carradine struck me. David, my good friend, passed away in Thailand on June 3.

David and I knew each other from the movie KILL BILL. Before that, I have of course seen a lot of his work. He is among the first Hollywood actors to perform Chinese martial arts on the big screen. In real life he is also a genuine kung-fu fan, and knows Tai Chi, Qi Gong and Chinese medicine. He wrote several books on Tai Chi and Qi Gong, spreading Chinese wisdom to the English-speaking world.

David has acted in more than 200 movies and TV drama. In early years he was a brilliant stage actor too, acting in various Shakespeare’s plays. Same as I, people shall always remember his role Caine, “the grasshopper,” in TV drama KUNG FU in the ’70s, which was a really unforgettable performance.

It was Quentin Tarantino who had the great eye to cast David as Bill in KILL BILL, for which I trained Uma Thurman and other actors to do the action sequences. With David, the training was like practice sessions between friends. It was great fun working with him, and he often had a lot of fresh ideas for the actions.

I feel both great honor and regret that TRUE LEGEND is one of David Carradine’s last works. I certainly feel proud that he is a part of our movie, and hope he would feel the same.

Crank 2 High Voltage

August 3rd, 2009 admin No comments

imagesIf the first movie was described as cartoonish, well then this one is MANGA on ACID !!! If your looking for a late night back from your local watering hole this is the movie for you

Story is our hero (?) is now roadkill but no wait whats this, a group of nasty triads have stolen his body and revived him and have now taken his heart and replaced it with an artificial one. He wakes up pissed and goes on a rampage to get it back and thats it.

The only down side to this movie is that it gets a bit predictable the director relies on the humping in public scenario  makes a return here but on a much grander scale that was shocking in the first movie but now seems lame.

Apart from that we get Bai ling shouting in broken english and lots of bullets and explosions, perfect movie to watch if your drunk or bored.

Red Cliff whole movie review best action movie of all time ?

July 13th, 2009 admin No comments

red_cliff_xlg

Movie kicks off with an evil power hungry Prime Minister Cao Cao manipulating the weak willed Emperor Han into going to war against the two remaining realms of Xu and Wu. Both Xu and Wu team up to defeat Cao Cao using incredible strategies and military cunning, culminating in one almighty battle were thousand of ships are burn at sea and the legend of Red Cliff starts

Hats of to John Woo he’s created one of the best action movie(chinese action movie that is) that ticks all the right buttons for action junkies, the battle scenes are incredible and very well edited. Some CGI is used but it does not deflect from the flow of the story unlike some hollywood action movies. There is also some wire work involved but again like the CGI its not overly used. Onto the acting which varies a bit to be honest, the two principal characters Zhou Yu played by Tony Leung Chiu Wai (Hard Boiled) and Sun Quan played by Chen Chang both put in fine performance.

For it being a realistic version of what was supposed to have happened I’d leave it to people who have read in detail about the Three Kingdom era to make that judgement, I’m just looking at it from an action movie point of view.

I have been a life long fan of John Woo from his early comedies to his martial arts movies Last Hurrah for Chivalry and Hand of Death, it was great to see John Woo rise again after the mess that was Mission Impossible 2 and Windtalkers not too mention the God awful Paycheck.

This is equally in the top 10 action movies for 2008 / 2009.

Ice Age 3 Dawn of the Dinosaurs

July 8th, 2009 admin No comments

watch_ice_age 3_online_for_free

Yes I know its a kiddie movie and its not really an action movie, but I dont care I loved the last two movies and this one is just as good as the first one.

The animation is crisp and clear, the main characters Sid, Diego and Manny and their freinds find themsevles in another adventure this time in an undeground dinosaur kingdom with an uber weasel named Buck (voiced by Simon Pegg) as their guide along for the ride is Manny’s mate Ellie and her brothers and the nut loving Scrat.

Plenty of laughs and injokes abound a great movie for all the family, I saw it in 3-D but to be honest it didnt really add to it.

Has Mann lost his Mojo….Public Enemies Review

July 7th, 2009 admin No comments

public-enemies-poster1

Saw Michael Manns latest Public Enemies, and to be honest I left the cinema feeling a bit conflicted as to what I had just seen.

Was it a very expensive art film or an art film pretending to be an action one ?

Yes it has great actors Depp and Bale do an excellent job with the roles they are given, hats off as well to the cinematography the look and feel of the movie are impressive.

What I cant get to grip with is the use of high definition video, the same format that was used in another Mann movie Collateral, it simply does not work not for a period piece it cheapens it considerably. It felt like I was looking at a cheap cable movie.

Overall good movie but could do without cheap gimmicks the movie stands good on its own merits (just say no to high def video)

Karl Malden a salute to an acting legend

July 2nd, 2009 admin No comments

A sad day for all…….

Karl Malden passed away yesterday at the grand age of 97.

Oscar winner for Best Actor in a Supporting Role in Streetcar named Desire

Nominated for an Oscar in a supporting role  for his role as Father Barry in Eliza Kazan On The Waterfront

Not the best looking actor but an amazing talent and an honesty the came through in his many tv and movie roles

I will always remember him in the Streets of San Francisco pairing up with Michael Douglas.
